YOSAKOI Soran Festival

Hello everyone! I hope you had a relaxing Golden Week.

I want to introduce you to an event that I'm looking forward to - the YOSAKOI Soran Festival, which will be held in June. It is an energetic dance event that adds colorful flare to the short Hokkaido summer. This year it will be held from June 7th to 11th.

The festival was first held in early June 1992, and 2023 marks the 32nd anniversary. It is said that the festival was named YOSAKOI Soran Festival by combining the YOSAKOI and Soran song and dance styles.

During the festival, you will be able to see vivid expressions and energetic dance moves from the participating teams, all dressed in colourful costumes.

Even if you have seen it on TV before, it's definitely worth visiting the festival in person. If you're planning to go to the event, we look forward to your visit and reservation at T Mark City Hotel Sapporo!

Flower Flower

Hello everyone,

Today, I would like to introduce must-try desserts from "Flower Flower," which is recently proving to be popular on Instagram. Their crepes and soft-serve ice cream look just like flowers and petals, making it difficult to choose which one to eat. All their menu items are cute and the atmosphere inside the shop is also very trendy.

Last time I visited, I tried the chocolate parfait. The chocolate ice cream was so rich, and it was topped with dried fruit and edible flowers that looked adorable. There were also dried fruits at the bottom, making it refreshing and easy to eat.

If you are interested, why don't you visit Flower Flower and try some deserts for yourself?

Bocca

I love sweet things, so whenever I stop by a convenience store I end up buying chocolates, ice cream and such. But sometimes, I crave for something a little fancier. Whenever that happens, I always go for Bocca's White Pudding.

The pudding comes packaged inside a rubber balloon, I really enjoy the gimmick of breaking the balloon open with a toothpick and seeing a round, pure-white pudding emerge from inside. As for the taste, the richness of the milk simply explodes in your mouth as soon as you take a bite, strongly appealing to those who love sweet things.

The secret to its deliciousness lies in its raw ingredient, the 'Date Milk', produced by dairy farmers near Bocca's Milking Parlor on the outskirts of Date city in Hokkaido. They process the premium raw milk at 95℃ for 15 seconds to ensure that the milk retains its natural sweetness and clean taste. The soft, chewy texture is great.

Halfway through eating, you'll want to put a spoonful of the accompanying bittersweet caramel sauce over the top. For me, this little change in taste always makes me reach for another one much quicker than otherwise.

This sweet dessert is always a hit as a gift. You can purchase it in Sapporo at the 'Hokkaido Shiki Market' right next to Sapporo Station. However, online ordering is also possible through Bocca's online store. If you're curious, please give it a try.

K.L.I.M Cafe

Hello everyone!

How are you all doing?

It is a well-known fact that Hokkaido is famous for its abundance of diary products. The prefecture produces more than half of the domestic supply of milk in Japan. Hokkaido milk is known for its high quality which is due to ideal farming conditions; dairy cows are free to roam the wide green fields living a happy life and therefore producing great tasting milk. When you visit Sapporo, we recommend you try the soft serve ice cream at K.L.I.M Café, a fairly new establishment (opened in 2021) close by to our hotel. We recommend you try their signature black sesame and coconut soft serve with pearls (900JPY). Please give it a try, they also do takeaways!

3. Inspirazione Firenze Arpegio
Combines fruity notes with cocoa notes, creating a velvety, dense and creamy cup.

They are all types of coffee that are not readily available in your average supermarket so please give them all a try!

Hello everyone!!

This is T Mark City Hotel Sapporo Front Desk Abe.

It seems that the number of warm days in Sapporo is increasing little by little, just like spring. How are you all doing?

Mt. Tengu of Otaru Tenguyama Ropeway is known for its symbolic mountain of Otaru at an elevation of 532.4 meters.

From the top of Mt. Tengu, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the streets of Otaru and Sea of Japan.

Other than the observation deck at the top of the mountain, there is a legend that "Nose nade Tengu-san" is magical, and that if you touch its long nose, you can get rid of evil spirits and wishes, and it is said that all wishes such as traffic safety, family safety, business prosperity, and academic achievement will come true.

Inside the top of the mountain, there is also a Tengu museum where items related to Tengu are collected from all over the country (free admission).

And above all, the night view is beautiful, so it's a very enjoyable place.

Vending Machines

Hello everyone!

Today we would like to introduce you to the vending machines installed in the lobby on the first floor of our hotel.

There are a total of five different vending machines. Two of them are stocked with cans and plastic bottles, and one serves drinks in a paper cup.

We also have an ice cream vending machine that’s very popular in the summer!

Our best recommendation is the vending machine for cup noodles.

It’s great for times when you’re a little hungry, but it's troublesome to go out to eat or go to a convenience store.

Please get chopsticks at the front desk.

We also have sweets such as "Pritz" and "Alfort."

2022 Cherry Blossoms

Hello, everyone.

The snow melts in Hokkaido and the cherry blossom season in Honshu is waiting. How are you doing?

The topic of cherry blossoms in Hokkaido seems to be still a long way off.

But for those of us who are eagerly waiting for spring, we are looking forward to the cherry blossom forecast.

March 9, 2022 10:51 Weather News

■Sakura Forecast■

·Predicted March 18th in Tokyo and Fukuoka
·Flowers bloom earlier than usual in northern and eastern Japan
·The warmth of spring accelerates the growth of buds

Toward the upcoming cherry blossom season, Weather News has announced its fifth cherry blossom forecast for 2022.

Based on more than 2 million cherry blossom reports received from participants in the Sakura Project over the past 18 years, independent coverage of famous places, and weather forecasts such as temperature, we predict the flowering date. I wonder when the nearby cherry blossoms will bloom and be in full bloom.

Cherry blossoms are expected to bloom in western Japan in 2022 as usual, and in eastern and northern Japan, they are expected to bloom earlier than usual and more than a week earlier.

This year's first cherry blossoms will be in Tokyo and Fukuoka on March 18th, followed by Yokohama and Hiroshima on March 20th.

It blooms in many places in western and eastern Japan in March, and blooms in various parts of Tohoku in early to mid-April. The cherry blossom wave is expected to land in Hokkaido in late April and bloom in Sapporo on April 23rd.

According to the "National Bomi Survey", which examined the condition of 5,152 cherry blossom buds, more than 30% of the buds in Kanto and Kyushu changed their colors.

In northern Japan, most cherry blossoms are still small and hard buds. However, in the southern Tohoku region, buds that have changed "yellow at the end" have already begun to appear.

The warmth of spring will continue to accelerate growth.
Temperatures are expected to be higher than usual in mid-March, with some days expected to reach 20 degrees Celsius in western and eastern Japan.

It is expected that the growth speed will continue to increase nationwide toward flowering.

Considering the results of this "National Bomi Survey" and the latest temperature forecast, we have advanced the forecast date of flowering in western and eastern Japan by one to four days from the previous announcement (March 2).

As soon as cherry blossoms begin to bloom in Hokkaido, plum blossoms also begin to bloom.

The flower season is almost here!

Sapporo soft stone

Hello, everyone

This time, I would like to introduce Sapporo soft stone, which is registered as Hokkaido heritage.

Sapporo soft stone is a rock (melted tuff) that hardened 40,000 years ago when a pyroclastic flow caused by a large-scale eruption of Mount Shikotsu cooled around Sapporo. Because it is easy to process and has excellent fire resistance and fire resistance, it has been widely used in buildings in Sapporo and Hokkaido since the early Meiji period, and a unique landscape has been formed. The old stone storehouse has been reused as a cafe, and the quarry site is loved not only by citizens as a park and green space, but also as a finishing material for buildings in recent years. In addition, Sapporo's soft stone culture is still continuing, with soft stone miscellaneous goods being commercialized.

It is a stone building that you can sometimes see when you walk around Sapporo. It's heavy, but it's kind of warm. There used to be many stone buildings and warehouses. It has completely decreased recently. However, I was fascinated by this gentle atmosphere and once again attracted attention to stone buildings.

Hokkaido's Great Answer

Today, I'm going to introduce a special edition of lifestyle magazine BRUTUS.

Its name in Englsih roughly translates to "Hokkaido's Great Answer."

The magazine BRUTUS introduces the charm of Hokkaido from its own perspective, but it is difficult to introduce it all at once because it is dotted with attractive towns such as Hakodate, Kushiro of seafood, Obihiro of dairy farming, Asahikawa, Hokkaido's second largest city. Therefore, the main point of the approach is to dig deeper into the highlights starting from seven airports in Hokkaido. It introduces superb views and activities such as gourmet food, culture and hot springs that can be accessed from each airport. Hokkaido is full of spots that even local Hokkaido residents have never visited .It is also full of fresh information for local people.

And at the end of the book, many famous local restaurants have also been introduced, and their sense and ability to cover news are overwhelming. It's completely different from other ordinary tourist guide books. This book is not only for tourists, but also for local Hokkaido residents.

If you have a chance, we highly recommend reading it!

Hello, everyone.

Hokkaido is the first prefectures in Japan to welcome autumn.

This time, I would like to introduce Nakajima Park, a scenic autumn leaves viewing spot located 10 minutes walk from our hotel. The trees in Nakajima Park begin to turn red every year from mid-October.

The park, which has a history of more than 100 years, includes Shobuike Pond, Hachimouan, which is designated as an important cultural property of the country, and Japanese gardens.

In particular, the area around Shobuike Pond is the most popular place, and the autumn leaves reflected on the surface of the pond are the most impressive.

It is a place where you can enjoy the scenery from various angles with a walkway surrounding the pond.

Why don't you pay Nakajima Park a visit?

Plan+Sapporo

Today I'm going to introduce you to a book called Plan+Sapporo.

It’s edited by Young-Joon Eun, who moved to Sapporo about 10 years ago (at the time of publication), and introduces many beautiful photos highlighting the distinctive charm of Sapporo.

Plan Plus comes from the idea that Sapporo sightseeing will be more fun if you carry this book around the city in addition to an existing tourist guidebook.

What is noteworthy about its content is that it is so unique. For example, "Iso-chan ramen" is featured in the introduction of gourmet spots.

*What is Iso-chan Ramen? It’s a ramen restaurant for local people who come by to eat after a night of heavy drinking and partying.

It's has a lot of content that’s different from your typical tourist guidebook. All the photos posted are slightly underexposed and slightly loose-focus, and the modern Sapporo streets look nostalgic.

I enjoyed this book as if I were flipping through my graduation album from my school days.

Among the photos are the beer garden in Odori Park, the Susukino Festival, and the school festival in Kita University which are always crowded with many smiling people.

These events are now in a situation where you have to refrain from doing so, but one day you will surely be able to enjoy sightseeing with peace of mind. I hope you can visit Sapporo after the pandemic ends. Be sure to take Plan+Sapporo with you on your trip. The beautiful streets and bright and friendly people Sapporo are waiting for you.

Issue: Plan Plus Co., Ltd. / Release: March 31, 2016 / 138P / Softcover
*It is available at limited large bookstores in Sapporo. I recommend you buy it online.

Lasagna Recipe

Hello, everyone.

This time I would like to introduce you to a great lasagna recipe I found online.

This is a summer recipe where you can fully enjoy the deliciousness of seasonal tomatoes.

【For 2 people】
150g minced meat
2 tomatoes (300g)
a quarter of an onion
Olive oil
Ketchup
1/3 of each sugar and curry powder
50g grated cheese

how to make

Cut tomatoes into large bite-sized pieces. Chop an onion into small pieces
Heat olive oil over medium heat in a frying pan and stir-fry minced meat and onions.
When the meat is cooked, add ketchup, sugar, curry powder and tomatoes and stir-fry for another minute. Put in a heat-resistant dish and sprinkle cheese on it and bake it on a toaster until it turns brown.

Here are some extra tips:

·It is recommended to use hard tomatoes (not too soft)♩

·If you bake too long, it will produce too much water, so please bake at a high temperature

Be sure to try it. It's very delicious!

Hot Plate

Hello, everyone.

This time, I would like to introduce a hot plate that is useful at home. I highly recommend buying a hot plate because it expands the range of dishes you can cook!

「 BRUNO BOE 021 」

good points

·Fashionable and easy-to-use size
·Temperature adjustment that can handle everything from stewed food to high temperature baking
·Optional items to make it more convenient
·Perfect for living alone

bad points

·It feels relatively expensive for its size
·Not compatible with metal spatula
·It's electric, so if you use it too much, the electricity bill will be charged.

I also use this hot plate at home, and the price starts at 8,200 yen on Amazon, and the price varies depending on the accessories. It is easy to adjust the temperature, and I think it is good to take pictures of the food, but it may be difficult to use depending on the home environment because it can only be made for 2-3 servings per cooking.

「 Iwatani cassette gas hot plate griller CB-GHP-A 」

good points

·Cassette gas type
·Cordless
·It can also be used for pot cooking
·Time flies before it's cooked
·It can be used in the event of an earthquake

bad points

·Temperature control is difficult
·The degree of baking varies depending on the place of baking.

I also use this hot plate at home. The price starts at 9400 yen on Amazon. There are electrical, IH and cassette gas types, but I feel that some kind of cassette gas type is the best.

I think it's relatively expensive at first, but once you buy it, you can use it for a long time, so I highly recommend it!
If you look up hot plates on the mail order site, you'll find a lot of them, so please look for your favorite!

Torch Burner

Hello everyone.
It’s May and Hokkaido has become completely warm. It's a pleasant season, isn't it?

I recently picked up a torch burner from my local hardware store in the camping equipment section. I got excited when I saw it, brought it, and took it home to test it out. It’s useful for burning charcoal when having a barbeque. The temperature of the flame reaches up to 1,300℃, so I can easily roast many different ingredients in a skillet.

[Roasted Salmon]
Arrange the fillets for sashimi on the skillet and roast them carefully so that they don't burn too much. Since it was a bit greasy, I squeezed some lemon lightly over the top and sprinkled with salt. It was delicious, perfect with a cold beer.

[Red Tuna]
Turn it with tongs and slowly bake the whole surface. When I put my knife in it, the contrast between the roasted surface and the red in the center is appetizing. I ate it with soy sauce and some small diced green onions.

[Meatloaf]
Heat the demi-glace sauce with a skillet and put on the meatloaf. Put a slice of cheese on it and bake it until it browns. It tastes incredible.

If you've been using torch burners to make charcoal, please try roasting. Grilling and roasting are completely different. I would like to roast various ingredients in the future. Please be careful not to burn yourself!

Hello, everyone.

This time, we would like to share with you what the food and drinks community in Hokkaido are doing to preserve Hokkaido food heritage for the future.

[Hokkaido Food Heritage]

Last year, many restaurants were forced to refrain from operating because of the coronavirus. This project was launched to offer people restaurant quality goods that you can prepare at home. The products on sale all feature distinctive tastes of Hokkaido cuisine.

Currently, three stores in Sapporo are participating in the project; the products are being sold at some stores in Sapporo, such as Sapporo Drug Store. You can also buy them online at https://www.kurashistore-hokkaido.jp/ (Japanese only).

Product information:

·Japanese style hamburger mix

Just mix and bake to make a juicy Hokkaido-style hamburger!

·Clock beef curry

A tasty curry from the long-established famous curry restaurant ‘Clock’. The restaurant's taste is excellently reproduced in this product!

·Stir-fried rice Zangi curry

"This product was developed under the guidance of the founder to easily reproduce the hidden popular menu ‘Zangi curry fried rice’ from the popular Chinese restaurant ‘Fukuro’. Try using it in other dishes than stir-fried rice!

Currently, there are only three products listed above, but in the future, we are certain they will introduce more food products that represent that great Hokkaido taste!

Happy New Years Sunrise

2021 New Year's greetings

Happy New Year, ladies and gentlemen!

On New Year’s Day, I went to Kamitein Shrine in Nishi Ward, Sapporo to catch a glimpse of the first sunrise! It has long been said that seeing the first sunrise of the year is lucky.

"This originated from the belief that Toshigami-sama appeared with the first sunrise of the year. Toshigami-sama is a god who visits houses every New Year to bring happiness for the year. In the first place, New Year's is an event to welcome this god.

Apparently, ornaments such as kadomatsu and shimenawa, which are still used on New Year's Day, are originally used to welcome Toshigami.

On January 1, 2021, I got up at 6 o'clock to watch first sunrise! The forecast said the temperature was -9 degrees, but the temperature around 6 o'clock on was actually -12 degrees!! My glasses were frozen!

Finally, the sun started to rise and I was shooting a video clip, but it was so cold that I couldn't stand holding the camera for a long time and couldn't film it until the sunrise was completely up. But I took a picture of you, so please take a look.

By the way, there are the following recommended spots in Sapporo where you can enjoy the first sunrise, but unfortunately, JR Tower observation deck and Mount Moiwa were canceled this year due to corona.

·JR Tower Observatory http://www.jr-tower.com/t38

·Moroksan Mountain https://mt-moiwa.jp/

·Asahiyama Memorial Park https://www.sapporo-park.or.jp/asahiyama/

·Sapporo Tineski resort https://sapporo-teine.com/snow/

How about seeing the first sunrise when you come to Sapporo during the New Year's holidays from next year onwards?

It's a tough time in Corona, but let's keep smiling in 2021.

Ugh!!

Sapporo Inari Shrine

「They have this famous Kyoto shrine in Sapporo too! Fushimi Inari Shrine」

Hokkaido has been ranked No. 1 for 12 consecutive years in the prefecture's attractiveness ranking (*Research by Brand Research Institute). The people of Hokkaido, have strong love for the local community, but in fact, there are other prefectures that the people of Hokkaido love.

Yes, that's right, Kyoto. Hokkaido is a new land that began to be cultivated in earnest in the beginning of the Meiji era, so the people of Hokkaido have a strong yearning for the eternal history and elegant streets of Kyoto, which have flourished as a capital since the beginning of the Inishie era. For example, the streets of Sapporo are made in the shape of a grid, imitating the streets of Kyoto. The history of Sapporo Fushimi Inari Shrine dates back to 1884. It started when the people of Hokkaido asked Fushimi Inari Taisha in Kyoto to replicate the shrine in Sapporo, and they enshrined Bunkami.

Fushimi Inari Taisha in Kyoto is famous worldwide for its Senbon Torii (Japanese style gate), which has an indescribable atmosphere with its closely-lined torii. It is said that there are actually more than 3000. There are many torii gates lined up at Sapporo Fushimi Inari Shrine, but there are only 26 gates, which is a little conservative. However, in winter, the dark red colour of the torii can be seen on the thick snow white, which is beautiful. Please come to this spot, which I strongly recommend you to visit for the first time of the year, and also don’t forget to take proper measures against Corona when you visit.

Tokyo Soup Stock

Hello everyone!

Winter has come early this year, and the first snowfall in Sapporo is starting to fall.

Because of the situation this year, I'm a little worried about next year's snow festival...

Throughout winter in Hokkaido, people love to eat a hot pot dish or hot soup. The restaurant I'd like to introduce this time is a soup restaurant.

It seems that the soup in this restaurant is served with local communities from the production area to the products, and that they are working with the intention of delivering the word "delicious" to the whole country.

The other day, I ordered the standard ‘Omar shrimp bisque’ soup at the restaurant; I love shrimp, and the flavor and the depth of the shrimp were very strong and delicious. The more you drink, the warmer your body and spirit becomes!

According to the official website, there is a story of ingredients in various soups on the menu, for example, the birthplace of Omar shrimp bisque is the story of a certain Canadian town and artisan. Why don't you read the story of the soup on the website while you drink it?

How to get there from the hotel:

Walk to Susukino Station (10 minutes) and take the Namboku Line train bound for Asabu Station and get off at Odori Station. Transfer to the Tozai Line train bound for Miyanosawa and get off at Maruyama Park Station and exit through exit 6.

ChanChan Yaki

Hello everyone!

It's getting colder in the mornings here in Sapporo. How are you all doing?
Lately it’s been getting colder and colder and sometimes I can’t bring myself to get out of my warm bed in the morning!

This time we would like to introduce you to a great recipe for cold days. What kind of dishes do you think of when thinking about Hokkaido's local cuisine?
There’s Genghis Khan and Sanpei Soup, but when it gets cold at home, there is a dish that we often make called Chanchan-yaki. We would like to introduce it to you because it’s easy to make and warms up your body on a cold day.

Here are the ingredients:

- Cabbage, carrots, onions, mushrooms, salmon
- Flavoring
- Miso paste, mirin (sweet cooking rice wine), sake, sugar

1. Combine the miso, mirin, sake, and sugar.

2, Put the cabbage, carrots, onions, mushrooms, and salmon on a hot plate and steam.

3. When the ingredients are cooked to some extent, put the soup stock made prior, and steam it again.

4. When the ingredients are cooked, crush the salmon and mix with the vegetables.

That's how we make it at home.

The seasoning is also different from household to household, so please try many seasonings and find your favorite!
